Taxus are small evergreen trees or large shrubs of rounded habit, with dense foliage, small flowers and, on female plants, bright red fleshy fruit surrounding the seed. Baccata has narrow, leathery, needle-like leaves. It will tolerate hard pruning, making it a favourite topiary choice. Plant in full sun to part shade, although it will tolerate full shade, coastal positions and poor soil. Harmful if eaten.
