Cupressocyparis are large, very fast-growing evergreen trees of narrowly conical or columnar habit, with dense clusters of tiny scale-like leaves small spherical cones. ‘Leylandii’ is a robust, compact, columnar conifer with flat, drooping dark green leaves. While it makes an excellent screening hedge it can become quickly unmanageable if not regularly pruned. Plant in well-drained soil in partial shade to full sun. Pruning should be carried out regularly to keep in check and to enable cutting to be restricted to new shoots, as it will not sprout from old cut wood.
