Corylus are deciduous trees and large shrubs with broad leaves, and showy male catkins in early spring, followed by edible nuts. With a spreading, bushy habit, C. avellana has a serrated leaf, rounded in shape, that will turn to yellow in the autumn. This native Irish tree produces delicious and nutritious nuts from Early September. A hardy plant that was tolerate full exposure, it prefers neutral well-drained soil.
