Acers can be deciduous trees or large shrubs with paired leaves and small flowers followed by fruit. The red bark of ‘Sango-kaku’ really makes this specimen stand out amongst the other varieties in the garden, especially in the winter. The foliage is also unique; pinky yellow when young, green in the summer and yellow in the autumn. The flowers are small and red. Grows to a height of 5m but is suitable for a small garden. Plant in partial shade to full sun in moist, well-drained soi.
