'Bloodgood' is a large bushy deciduous shrub with deep red-purple leaves with 5-7 slender-pointed lobes, turning red in autumn. Small purple flowers are followed by red fruits. One of the most popular purple-leaved Japanese maples.
Site & Soil: Grow in fertile, moist, well-drained neutral to acid soil in full sun to partial shade. Avoid south-facing locations.
Hardiness: Hardy in all of UK and northern Europe.
Eventual Height & Spread: 2.5-4m x 2.5-4m.
Other: Water in summer if necessary. Leaf scorch can be caused by lack of soil moisture or excessive exposure.
